Earth worms eat organic matter and leave behind castings rich of calcium, potassium and phosphorus. They aerate the soil through burrows which increases the ability of water to move through the soil. Worms create humus.
The more worms the more fertile is the soil the better your plants grow. They don't like synthetic fertilizers.

depends...those that stay in the soil are good, for those that only eat the leaves of the plant, they aren't much good
