You can find a job just about anywhere in NYC, just not as a '"professional fiction writer." Most writers starting out in fiction do it in there spare time while working a regular job, unless they are independently wealthy or otherwise supported.
To find related jobs, check under Editing or Publishing in hotjobs or monster. Plenty of listings. You can also see if there are any staff writing positions available at magazine publishing houses - there are quite a few based in NY.
You might consider trying for a position as a copywriter in ad agency, or as a communications assistant (writing newsletters, press releases, etc.) for just about any major corp.
To find how best to market your writing, and where to send it for consideration, and other practical advise, check out "The Writer's Market" either in the bookstores or the local library. It is THE resource for authors seeking to get published.
best of luck!
