Swearing and violence of any kind is NOT allowed in my 8th grade classroom. The best way to make this clear is on the very first day of school. You have to stomp into your classroom and slam your books down on the desk and then lay down the law. Try to scare the wits out of them on Day 1. Pass out a list of rules and make each student sign a behavior contract with you, to keep in your files. This helps when five months later they claim they didn't know the rules.
Now you can relax and have fun with your class because they already know you won't tolerate any nonsense.
Keep in mind that swearing is so ubiquitous in our society that I don't believe that some students are aware that a few of their 'everyday words' are actually profane. One year I actually had to make a list on the chalk board of words that are off limits in my 8th grade classroom. They actually argued that some common profane words, such as "b*tch" when it is used as a verb, was not profanity. Part of my job as a teacher is to teach them how to express themselves in an acceptable manner in preparation for their adult professions.

I teach high school and have now for 13 years and I would say that nearly every teacher in my experince has at sometime a student swear at them. As for college both my Grandfather (maternal) and my Father have taught on the college level and have told me that they have been sworn at - but that is of course very rare and usually the student isn't a very psychologically balanced individual.

Im a rookies and to be truthful, i imagine scholars are hipocrits. at the same time as a instructor swears all of them flow abode and flow " Wow wager what, the instructor swore on the on the spot" at the same time as 0.5 the time, the students are swearing!!! Does that make it suitable? If that instructor swears commonly then it really is an issue because Its a realy undesirable celebration. If He/She only swore some times through anger, disappointment and so on, then scholars/human beings shouldnt make a huge deal over it

I have experienced this problem with not only my elementary students, but with other professionals. I simply tell them that until they can converse like adults I have nothing further to say to them. I then promptly turn and walk away. It never fails to get their attention and after being ignored for awhile they come around.

No one in any of my class swears. They're pretty good kids where this is concerned. They respects us as humans doing our jobs not people passing our lives.
