Whether alkane is a functional group could be some kind of trick Q. It is normally assumed to be the backbone of organics, but I guess you could rate it as a group.

Cyclopentyne, if it exists, would be a highly unstable cmpd b/c of the strain of twisting a linear (180degree) f group into a ring.

If you are having to ask such simple questions, you need to go talk to your instructor. Its only one month into the school year and you are already sinking. It only gets harder after this. Shape up now, or bail out.

Alkanes can become functional groups if you strip off the terminal hydrogen...Hence Methans becomes a methyl group, ethane an ethyl group etc.

Cyclopentane put too much strain on the carbon-carbon bonds thus making them unstable.
