Never iron necktie's without using a thin cloth. This will protect
the material. Every time i iron my clothes, I use a thin cloth.
Mine looks like a old fashion dipper cloth. This way if water spills
it'll touch the cloth and you will catch it on time before it goes
through. But it shouldn't. It'll also protect your clothing from fading.

you probably had the heat on the iron turned up to high for that type of fabric. when you do that it tends to burn. if you turn down the heat then that won't happen. or if you can't addjust the heat then put a towel over your tie when you iron it next time
