Break the shape into rectangles and triangles, then add the areas together.

Divide the 5 sided shape into 5 triangles. Take each triangle in turn and multiply the length of the base by the height and divide by 2, this gives you the area of a triangle. Repeat for the other 4 triangles and add the answers together to give you the total area.
