Well, since this is the philosophical question section, are you asking me if I am philosophically ready for Halloween? I think so. I think I've accustomed myself that it has become a mere whimsical consumer holiday, and doesn't really have anything to due with pagan precursor holidays like Samhain, or even the English-Catholic traditions of an All Hallows Eve that preceded All Saints Day. We don't dress up as witches or ghosts to scare spirits of the underworld away, and we don't dress up as these supernatural creatures to claim the offerings left out for them by the gullible and scared. I've even resigned myself to the fact that we institutionalize extortion, giving in as children threaten us with a trick unless they get their treat. As for costume, I can't decide whether to go as Schopenhauer or Spinoza.

Still have decorating to do and candy to buy. We'll be giving out candy to about 300 kids that come by the house. It costs us a fortune every year. My 13 year old daughter is going to be a pajama girl (with the rest of her friends) and she'll be going trick or treating on her own with her friends for the 1st time. My 9 year old son doesn't know what he wants to be..most likely something scary. No halloween party this year...too expensive. We had one last year.
