Emperors are only associated with an empire, and it is HIGHLY suspecious that Japan still has one and recently decided to revoke the US constitution MacAthur wrote for them which kept them out of wars by self-denial of a military.

Will the "Sons of Heaven" once again try to conquer the world?

The head of state of Japan is still technically an Emperor and they are referred to as the Imperial Royal Family.
There have been one or too megalomaniacs who, for no visible reason, declare themselves Emperor, such as Bukasa from the Central African Republic. Perhaps it stems from tribal chiefs calling themselves kings, so he felt he needed to go one higher!

The present Queen of England's father was technically the last Emperor of India; a title first given to Victoria to encourage her back into public life.
Hailee Selassie was Emperor of Ethiopia, also technically, as what the empire actually consisted of is not altogether clear!

The current emperor of Japan is his Imperial Majesty, Akihito.
This is the only emperor I know of today, except of course, for the Emperor Penguin.
