It really depends on the specific animal that you get. I had a couple really nice iguanas, and I have friends that have had really nice iguanas, but they can be very mean. After my nice ones passed away, I got a new one that turned out to be extremely mean. He always whipped his tail (that hurts!) and he bit me so hard on the thumb that he drew blood - all for no apparent reason. I didn't really want to for the animal's sake, but I had to take him back because I couldn't have an animal that wouldn't let me get near him or his cage.

That's when I discovered Bearded Dragons. They are very sweet animals. You can't get them really young though because they are very delicate. I mean, you can try, but you would be surprised what can hurt and even kill these little guys. They are very cute with their little puffy heads and scrawny bodies, but they are too expensive to have to buy two or three of them for over $50 a piece just to have something really bizarre happen to them. They are expensive, but they can live at least 15 years and, like I said, they are very sweet. You can just carry them around on your shoulder and, once they get comfortable, they won't move much. Plus its fun to see the reactions on people when they realize that you have a lizard on your shoulder. =)

No- they are fragile difficult pets which grow large and have many medical problems. They need a diverse diet of greens, flowers, fruit, vegitables, the right humidity, the right light and heat. They can get big and nasty.
If you want a good easy reptile pet, think about a bearded dragon.

Hi, an iggy is a good pet only if you are an experienced reptile owner. They look cool, but are quite a handful. I have rescued them for years and have many scars to show for it. I love them, but they are definately not for the beginner herp owner or the squeemish. Bearded dragons or water dragons ( which look just like an iggy but a little smaller and friendlier) are better as pets. Good luck.

I'm not saying they can't be, I know some people who keep them properly and love them, even as adults... But for about 95% of the population they make horrible pets. They get VERY expensive to keep properly, need a ton of space as adults, and can become aggressive, even dangerous. If you want a reptile, try a snake, bearded dragon, Uromastyx, leopard gecko etc...

I have never owned one myself, but several friends have. They are a very mellow reptile, but the females can get a bit aggressive after maturing and they are going through a mating cycle. That is the only cautionary bit I have heard about them. Just keep them away from radiation or Japan may come looking for you if Tokyo get stomped on again.

my 30lb monster has been with us now 13 years. He is more like a conversation piece than an actual loving PET like a dog or a cat.

He hates my dogs and the dogs are fearful of him due to his swinging monstrous tail.

He is 6" long from nose to tip of tail and weighs about 30 pounds!!!

It depends on how experienced you are with iguanas. i have 2 and have rescued both of them from people who did not take care of them properly. I personally do not recommend people to get one unless they knwo how to take care of them properly. They can be aggressive if you feed them wrong diet and also do nto spend time with them. Mine are tame and will let us hold anytime we want. They are also potty trained and are free roamers in my house.
