First find out the rear end gearing. Depending on the gear ratio out back will determine the number of teeth you will need on the speedo gear drive that goes into the transimission. If you can find a good parts counter man at the Chevy dealer (instead of one of those dolts that only knows how to use the computer) he should be able to get you the right nylon gear for you car....or at least come close.

semihemi became into precisely superb. The length of the tranny tail shaft is a attention, as is the yoke. The yoke for the 350 is smaller in diameter i've got self assurance. The tension shaft will virtually surely would desire to be altered. They share an identical bell housing bolt development. The 4 hundred is a lot, lots extra effective than the 350 and could take lots extra abuse. I pulled a 396 ci from a sixty 9 Chevelle SS and dropped in a 327 ci quickly. The tranny extra healthful completely, yet I did exchange out the stress shaft thoroughly.

ok drive gear on output shaft is probably a 8 tooth gear.Driven gear could be 18 , 19, or 20 tooth depending on rear axle ratio and tire size.Start with 8 tooth drive and 18 driven.and see how far speedo is off. Also you will need a clip to secure drive gear. you can purchase these gears from transmission parts suppliers like transtar industries. Most dealers don`t have the gears in stock anymore.

the gear is color coded...purple...pink and so on...on the bottom of the transmission around the pan there should be a stamped #. Get this # and go to your GM dealer...they should be able to match it to the correct gear.

also...have you taken the rear shaft cover off to see if the gear is there...if you have then you know...if you haven't then remove it and look to see if the gear is there.

This is a simple procedure...you remove the drive shaft...then 4 bolts to remove the rear output cover...the gear should be in place on the shaft.

Don't forget to change the rear seal while you are there...cheap and insures against leaks.

use silicone to regasket the shaft housing to the transmission.

Hope this helps
