It lacks awareness the way we have. So the concept of environment is absent. It is just driven by instincts of survival, and this instinct also helps innovation where possible and feasible , in terms of capability as well as creating an outside situation !

its called adaptation. some responses might be the change of the color of feathers to camafluge in its inveironment. other responce might be to get more feathers.
