I know a 21-year-old man. He lives at home, pays rent, and his other bills. The only time he ever goes out is when he works or runs errands. This man never dates and has only kissed a girl like five times in his life. He has no plans for post-secondary schooling. Is there something wrong with this man?

There's nothing wrong with him he just isn't in to socializing. Some people mature slower than others and he is apparently one of them.

His parents are also not helping him any by letting him continue to live at home at 21 when he isn't still going to school but then again you may not know the whole story.

How do you know that he has only kissed a girl 5 times? Even if that is true there is nothing wrong with that. Maybe he is shy or just hasn't found anyone to his liking. For some people, dating isn't that big of a deal.

Not going to college is a big mistake, but it's his mistake to make.

As for living at home maybe his parents need help either financially or medically so he is staying there for those reasons and since those are personal family business, he may not want anyone to know that.

It is nice of you to be concerned about him, if indeed that is what you are, but there isn't anything wrong with him other than possibly being lazy.

Myself, unless he were staying at home in order to help his family out, I wouldn't be interested in dating him myself, not that he would apparently have any interest anyway, but let the man be.

He is just living his life the way he wants to at the time.

I knew an exceptional man that was at home till he was 28. he helped his parents out, paid rent etc. He did not date much because he was saving all his best for one special woman. He did however go to college. No, this man is not my husband. he is now married, with kids, a wonderfully happy person. I would never consider himself a failure for dedicating his time in preparation for a lifemate by staying at home a failure.

Not a failure just socially inept..lacks confidence won't get started unless he gets involved in group activities..is put in situations where he can begin to feel better about himself and gradually become more outgoing..I'll bet he has much to offer only needs to get jump-started a good friend or relative needs to draw him out...he must like some activity or strongly held opinions that a group meets for somewhere and sometime he could participate..

Maybe he is HIMSELF. You don't have to question why people are the way they are just because they are not like you. Maybe you should ask him that question and see what he says.
I wonder what he thinks about you. By the way he is 21. I don't usually consider 21 years old guys to be men yet. Hardly!

Sounds like a shy, boring, but perfectly decent guy living a life of quiet desperation. Actually a good starting point for a life. Now he needs to find his passion and go for it. For me it was adventure sports.

Just because he has no plans right now it doesn't make him a failure. Anyways I think that is his problem and not yours, unless you are this man.

He's only 21!
How's *your* life going?? is the question to ask.
Why are you comparing yourself to anyone else?
He just is not on your life script, is all.
