I'm not talking about "theoretical" losses of rights, or some vague "they COULD do this or that." I want to know what right you have personally had repressed - either you, or someone you know personally.

I keep hearing how we've lost all these rights under the Fascist Republican Regime (why even hold elections anymore?) I want to hear from some Citizen who has, or knows some Citizen who has, lost life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness as a result of the Act.

Larry - maybe you should check with your financial advisor before doing these sorts of things. Besides, this is not a "Patriot Act" issue - it's simply an extension of the "Bank Secrecy Act" of 1970. You would have been investigated for money-laundering either way - so this doesn't really count. Besides, the USSC has already ruled against you. SO technically, that wasn't one of your rights as an American Citizen.

Entarrado - all of the things you point out could still have happened before the Patriot Act. Ever heard of "National Security?" And again, I ask - did this happen, or is it still just a "theoretical?"

I transferred $100K into a stock purchase in April. Yesterday I get a call from the broker saying Homeland Security has not cleared the investment yet.

Supposedly if I had transferred less money it would not need Patriot Act approval.

So I lose 6 months worth of dividends.

I don't know what freedoms other people have lost but I'm doing the exact same things I've always done. Nothings changed. I have the same rights and privileges as ever.
Someone must be suffering though, because I keep hearing about all these people who are being repressed because of the Patriot Act. If you find one let me know. I'd really be interested in hearing about him.
Oh, Larry, quit whining. You have $100,000 in your bank account. Plenty of people don't have $100. Grow up and become thankful that you live in a county where you were able to accumulate that much money. I can't believe that you are complaining because you can't collect your interest for six months. Next time invest $99,000 and no one will say a thing.

Would you like to live in a country where you know that you could get arrested without evidence, held for unknown periods of time, and searched without reason. The effects of some bills are not direct, but the idea still remains. People should not live knowing that what used to be a guaranteed freedom and right is now overshadowed by an unfair, civil liberty restricting Bill.

If your content to let Bush change the constitution, your content to live under a repressive gov't.
