What a hard situation. Being a card-carrying Daddy and former husband has given me lots of opportunities to what-if a lot of situations. Consider a lame judicial system that favors the assailant. All the excuse making for the assailants unfair turn in life, lack of upbringing, etc. This creates a lot of frustration among law abiding citizens. The moral issue is... do you want to go down to their level? There is a lot of ambiguity in your scenario - "hurt" can be a lot of different things, are we talking simple assault, assault and battery, some kind of sexual assault, or some very horrible name-calling? Your example seems to take place in the courtroom. And the question also seems to include considering ones size and strength, and others ability to physically intervene and prevent the you from reaching the assailant. To answer the personal opinion nature of your question...I am no better than anyone else, and subject to the same emotions. If someone sexually assaulted one of mine, I would be sorely tested in my self control to avoid stooping to the assailants level. As for the physical thing in the courtroom, I would probably not be allowed in, or would have a substantial Law Enforcement escort. I'm 6'4, 280 lbs., and enjoy pumping iron. There is a good likelihood that the assailant would suffer considerable damage before I was removed. And then I now have the moral high ground, perhaps, but also have assault charges on me. If my son came in second in a fistfight, that would be an altogether different situation, even if he was hurt. A final thought...the hardest thing in the world to do is find a way to forgive some kind of dirtbag who did something terrible. Getting the person put away where they don't pose any further threat eliminates them as a problem for us, albeit sometimes only temporarily. The carrying of a grudge and living for revenge hurts the angry person, not the assailant. If someone has hurt you or someone you know, please find peace in your heart and try to heal. God bless you.

tearing them apart would be an understatement... more like rip them to shreds 'till I could get to their insides, then I'd hang them by their own intestines...
no, actually I probably could... while we were in court anyways... I guess it'd depend on what exactly they did...
