The egg came first because something had to evolve/mutate into a chicken for the first chicken to be created
For all I know it could have been because a lizard porked a beaver, but anyway the egg was layed by something other than a chicken.
That is assuming that we're talking about what came first a chicken or a chicken's egg, because if you're just talking about any old egg than the egg in general came well before chickens were even around, like back in the dinosaur era

The chicken or the egg is a reference to the causality dilemma which arises from the expression "which came first, the chicken or the egg?". Under the section entitled, "Whether the hen or the egg came first," the discussion is introduced in such a way as to suggest that the origin of the dilemma was even older:
"...the problem about the egg and the hen, which of them came first, was dragged into our talk, a difficult problem which gives investigators much trouble.
