Is there any difference in gravity/friction/tempeture or any other factors that could make a roller coaster operate at faster speeds at night then daytime?

temperature and rain can effect the speed of a roller coaster but night time just makes it seem faster

Most are gravity powered so the operator can't control the speed. even if they aren't gravity powered, i sincerely doubt they would let the operator (most likely a college or high school student) control the speed.

Roller Coasters At Night

I know you can usually get on them a lot faster at night when there are fewer people in the parks!

So, if fewer people are riding... does that mean the trains aren't as full?

One would think heavier trains might go a little faster, but then again, that's more people to offer "wind resistance".

Hard to say. I suppose there are factors that could influence speed, but I would say those differences are only slight.

They are a heck of a lot more fun a night though, I think. The darkness adds to the thrill factor.

Good question. Thumbs up to your question.

NO. They go faster the more crowded the line for the ride is. The operator speeds it up so they can get more people on.

No, it's just you cant see anything like you do during the day to judge your speed, so it seems like you are going faster

I think people are more likely to have drunk alcohol in the evening, so things will tend to spin faster.
