Both Saw movies, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Grudge, and all of Scary Movies (mostly to help you guys sleep if you decide to). Other than TCM, try avoiding anything with Massacre in the title as they usually turn out to be crap. Also, ask your folks, cuz our parents' generation had some pretty good movies.
Also, you could go for a theme. Watch all the movies of one of the classics. Try getting a hold of everything with Freddy, Jason, Mike Meyers (the killer, not the comedian), or Chucky in them. Chucky's usually more for a laugh cuz... he's a frickin' doll! But the others are all classics for a reason.
I suggest avoiding Stephen King's movies, though they usually are good if you haven't read the books. They are, however, not overly scary.

"When a Stranger Calls"- the original one from back in the 1970's. "When a Stranger Calls Back" is even creepier. I did not see the version of this movie that was remade last year, but nothing beats the original. Movies like "Texas Chainsaw" do not scare me because I don't think they are very realistic. But, "When a Stranger Calls" is somewhat realistic- who hasn't been a little scared when you're babysitting laste at night, and the phone rings...You must rent this!! "Have you checked the children?".....
