A food chain is a single line of organisms, where each is preceded by something that it consumes and is followed by something that consumes it. A food web branches out in all directions with arrows pointing from organisms to any number of organisms that consume it.

food chain Food chains describe the eating relationships between species within an ecosystem or a particular living place. Many types of food chains or webs are applicable depending on habitat or environmental factors. Every known food chain begins with a type of autotroph, whether it be a plant or some kind of unicellular organism. food web A food web is similar to a food chain; only bigger. Food webs show how plants and animals are connected in many ways to help them all survive, unlike food chains that just follow one path. For example, a tree produces acorns - this is called the producer. Mice and other insects eat these acorns and because there are many mice, the weasels, snakes and racoons have food. With insects in the acorns, other predators would be attracted (like skunks or opposums) and therefore, foxes, hawks or owls could all find food.

A food web consists of many food chains. Food chain is a series of an ecosystem through which resources within it is transferred to each member of chain. But a single food chain never exists and organisms need to operate at more then one tropic level. which results in the interconnected food chain that is called food web.

It's like the 1st answerer said. a food chain is basically a chain, with a straight line of links. A food web starts branching off. a food web could be that sharks eat seals, but they also eat tuna. it could branch out from seals and tuna, because they eat too. sometimes 2 branches will meet at a common thing, like if 2 kinds of foxes were in the same chain and both ate rabbits or a kind of bird (sry if that's gross to anyone) and were at the same 'height' in the food chain.
