I am running Windows XP - Pro and I use Norton Internet Security. I have a cable modem. If my computer is off and I start it up, it boots up and Windows starts up, but it does not establish a connection to the internet. (It used to do this fine -- the problem has just appeared recently.) However, if I click on "Start - Shut down - Restart", the computer shuts down and then immediately restarts by itself, and this time when it boots up, it connects to the internet o.k. How can I get it to establish the internet connection on the initial start-up?

Okay this is easy...

If at start up your computer is losing its connection then I would suggest first before restarting. Upplug the modem until it is turned off. Leave it turned off for 30 seconds (count). After that plug the modem back in. If it continues try unplugging all the wires on the back of the modem and then restarting and seeing what it does.

If all else fails you have a crappy company...whether cable or dsl your having trouble in the line most likely, in which case I would call the company and demand they come out and replace the lines. If your renting this can be a hassel I'd just live with it.
