They both can communicate with each other...
Cells "talk" to each other by sending chemical messages and cell phones "talk" to each other by phone calls

Cell phones got their names from cells (the living creature kind).

Communication tower coverage areas, when viewed on a map, look like cells (creature cells) thus were given the name 'cell' phones. Truth!

That is the only factual similarity.

They are so different that anyone who wants to know the differences ought to get a life.

I can't really think of anything similar except for the names. Two things are kind of similar... They can both perform activities and they are both made up of many different parts.
They're very different... All living organisms are made up of cells, and cell phones are not living at all.
Here are some differences, though:
- cell phones are not alive, cells are.
- cells contain genetic material (DNA), phones don't.
- cells are either square (vegetable) or round (animal), whilst cell phones are rectangular or whatever else.
- cells can direct their own activities autonomically, phones need instructions.
Hope that helps.
