Almost all of it.
A newspaper will only see around 10-20 per cent of the cover price, once the cost of distribution is taken into account. They will see more if the paper is sold as part of a subscription, but what is saved on distribution is normally passed on as a saving to the customer. So unless you're talking about a paper that sells millions then around 95-99 per cent of income will come from advertising.
With free newspapers then all of the income will obviously come from advertising in one form or another. I hope this helps.

lets just say if a paper like the sun were just to sell for the price of the paper and had no income from advertising they would be heavily in debt. my gfriend works for the financial times and they give it away for free so the audience is larger thus the advertisers will pay more

I saw the break down of this once and was shocked. the cost of 50 cents or what ever was really print and distribution.
The money for the news paper was all in advertising and increasing the readership so they can increase add revenue.
That sort of explained why many of the paper started to pander to one group and went to the left or right. Also o have you ever seen a negative restaurant review?? or what about bad news of the restate market? any and all of the bad news is really watter down.
Follow the money
