Yes you can (even though it's unlikely), I would not chance it. Use a condom and/or get on birthcontrol. However, remember that you need to be on the pill for a full month before it becomes completely effective. Also, condoms are only 80% effective (I'm pregnant right now and we were using condoms!). So I would reccommend waiting to have sex until you're successfully on the pill.

I was always told that when you are on you're period it is really easy to get pregnant.

It's HIGHLY unlikely that you would be ovulating while on your period, but I've heard it's possible.
