Here is a great website that discusses makeup techniques and colors:

The rule of thumb is this:

#1 Do not use liquid liner.. it doesn't smudge and so doesn't make that smokey look

#2 Use stick liner that has a smudging tip at the opposite end as that sort will have the best smuding ability

#3 Choose a darker taupe, grey or charcoal for the most dramatic smokey look

First you apply a dark grey shadow to your eyelid. Then apply a white colored frost just under the eyebrow, and to the sides of the eyeball, not too much though. Then you apply a dark navy eyeliner over the grey shadow all the way to your eyelash and underlids. That will create a smokey eye effect.I hope this helped,I tried to describe it the best I could.

- Use eyeliner that is one shade darker than your eyeshadow, apply a medium thick line, smudge upwards with a q-tip
- apply your eyeshadow from eyeliner to a little above your crease
- 2 coats of mascara, comb to make lush and natural

(tip: purple and green smokey eye looks great)

use a eyeliner color that coordinates with your eyeshadow, which should be a darker color, ex. navy blue or green, and when you put it on kinda smear it w/o going overboard on the smearing cuz it'll get all over your face and use tow or three tones of the color of eyshadow you want putting the lighest on first
