A music box. They have really pretty ones shaped into a glass globe and have a variety of things inside ( flowers, butterflies dancers etc.)Start looking now. Some are a little expensive depending on what you want to spend but you could always put it on lay away and pay a little each week or so.

My dance teacher is a friend of mine as well. She's very much into cute cartoon things, so I got her a Tweetie calendar that she loved. If she's into something, get her something related to it.
For some reason, no one gets dancers something dance related. I don't know why. Probably because they're afraid of cliches. However. I've seen some really cute key chains of small pointe shoes, about 2" big. They're a cool idea. Key chains are always a good idea if the key chain is cute/funny/smart. I'd also reccomend stirrup legwarmers, they're never out of style for dancers, they keep your ankles warm for practice and they're cute.
Dancers must take care of their feet. We always forget that. Have you seen Body Shop's little gift baskets? There are some that are for foot care (scrub, cooling lotion, etc.). The best gifts are the gifts that show you care. If you've got a nose for perfumes, you could get her something she has been wanting to get, or you could go for the cheaper (but just as enjoyable) Body Shop eau de toilette series. I've got the chocolate scent and it's my favourite.
If you know for sure she likes scented candles or other table ornaments, you could get her something like that. Another cool idea is a big dance poster of her favourite dancers (a low budget gift you can combine with something else if you want).
You can go all Christmas and get her something christmas related, but I've always liked gifts that aren't seasonal. You can't wear Santa mittens all year long, now, can you? ;) Try to avoid gifts that she may be unable to use, like tickets and free passes (unless you know that she's free on that day and she wants to go to said place).
Finally, a gift certificate for a dance store could mean a lot to her. I know I'd be thrilled, you can never have enough dance shoes and they are worn out so quickly!
Good luck. I hope you find something that will please her.

You could always get tickets for the two of you to see a local performance of The Nutcracker or something like that, and if you aren't *that* close to her, just give her the two tickets and let her choose who she wants to go with! I taught dance for five years and received a similar present (Riverdance), and it was the best gift EVER, from a teacher's point of view. :)

YES

Go to STAPLES.

Purchase your friend a really nice
Pen and Pencil set with several pen refills.

A nice pen and pencil set will outlast any
]gift given by others, and keep you in his/her
mind for a long, long time.

Costs range from about $17 to $35 and you
can pick something in your budget pretty easily.
