Consider the choices of Native Americans who decide to stay on their tribe's native land (reservation) and those who choose to relocate to a city.

That is a difficult decision.

On one hand there is not much future in staying on a reservation except for being with one's relatives and friends - the job opportunities are next to nil, there is not much chance for advancement, socialization is on an even plane, and I don't really know how the government agents (do they still do that?) act toward Native Americans. On the other hand it is not as stressful as moving to an area and environment that is totally alien. The individual would know the reservation well, could be at one with all that is on the land, and would have total freedom to practice pretty much any kind of activity without repercussion from anyone as I think there is an immunity from that sort of thing if on the reservation.

City life is full of stressful situations, noise, smells and bitter people at times. Road rage at rush hour is sometimes not pretty. City life in fact is usually stressful even for those who grew up there. If it was a small town or rural area it might be a better fit for some people who have spent their lives on a reservation, and then after acclimating to that environment moving up to the city - kind of a breaking in as it were. There are cool things about city life, such as some of the restaurants, shopping close by, museums and night spots for those interested in it, and other anemities, but a person can visit those places even if they do not live in the city.

I think I just might choose living on the reservation, and getting a job within driving distance, perhaps in a small town or suburb - and visit the city for special occasions. (I live in a small home in the suburbs now, drive about 1/2 hour to work, and drive into the city for special occasions, so that would not be so different - I would just have a lot more land to enjoy as I do feel more connected when not around a lot of noise and stress).

I choose the reservation during the summer and city during the winter.

Hmm..they can live on poverty and government assistance and hope for employment at a casino..

Or they can try to mesh with city life somewhere..

Some choice.
