RBI is runs batted in -- runs you either actually make yourself, or that you make another batter score when you hit because that person was already on base.

When you see a score partway through the game such as Yankees 3 4 0 Orioles 2 5 1 , in each case it's runs/hits/errors. A run is when you score. A hit is when you hit and get on base, whether you get to score or not. An error is a designation given to a play on which a player gets on base due to another's mistake, such as the fielder drops the hit ball instead of catching and throwing it accurately. It doesn't count into the game scoring as such.

RBI stands for Runs Batted In. The three scores displayed in an ESPN baseball game for example are probably the three letters R, H, and E. R stands for runs, H stands for hits, and E stands for errors. Going back to RBIs, a player is credited for 1 to 4 points, if you will, if after he hits the ball, a runner or runners on the bases touches home plate without being tagged by the catcher with the ball.
