I am scheduled to have a D & C done in the next couple of weeks. I know that there is pretty much nothing to it, but I do have a question. Even though it is outpatient surgery, would anyone recommend taking the day after off from work as well?? I am thinking it may be a good idea. Has anyone else had a D & C?? How long did you take off from work?? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I had a D&C in my doctors office. No antisecea or anything. It was VERY PAINFUL. I suggest you take a few days off. I was sick for a few days because of the pain. I didn't know that was suppost to be done in the hospital. I was young and stupid. The doc. was a quack. I hope you feel better soon after. Take care!!

I had a D&C done about two years ago. After the surgery I was as sick as a dog. What they don't tell you is that having an empty stomach and anetheisia don't mix. When I woke up I had hard cramps like menstral cramps that went away with a few tylenol. The nurses offered me crackers and cookies both of which made me sick to my stomach because I was full of anesthesia and didn't have any food on my stomach to sustain it. The next day was Christmas eve, and although I felt fine physically, my throat hurt from the breathing tube.I was back to myself on Christmas day. You may want to take the next day off.

You will be under anesthesia for this procedure. You should take a day off from work because of the side effects from anesthesia. It can make you sleepy, or sometimes even give you a headache. Take a day to rest. It is a fairly simple procedure and probably the only effects you have will be caused from the anesthesia.

Yes, I would recommend you take off of work. I had a D & C on a thursday, and took off friday and monday. I didn't feel like getting out of bed the next day let alone going back to work.

I had a D & C several years ago, in 1970 and was off work a week. Things have certainly changed since then and the precedure is simpler but go with your doctors advice and how you feel. Bleeding can occur if you are too active.

it would be advisable to take a day off after the operation, to make sure that you have enough rest.
