I found a really nice bedroom set that is made of particle board. I've only owned real wood furniture but I love this bedroom set that I've found. What are the pros and cons of having particle board furniture in your home?

Particle board is not as strong as real wood. The laminate that they use to cover the particle board scratches and chips easily. Underneath the laminate does not look good, so when you scratch the laminate you will see the ugly particle board underneath it.

The pros of particle board are that it is cheaper than real wood. It is usually lighter that real wood. Finally, we have a particle board bedroom set. We've been waiting for all the negatives to appear on our bedroom set. We've been waiting for 7 years! We've moved 5 times. Our bedroom set has gone up and down 3 flights of stairs by movers and friends. We dont take very good care of it, and it has lasted forever. We're really sick of our bedroom set, but it just wont go bad. The worst that has happened is that one of the bottom drawers cracked. The part was actually thin solid wood. We have a few scratches, but nothing major. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Particle Board Furniture

Pros: Cheap.
Cons: The particles and glue used in the making of particle board are not environmentally friendly, and it does not compare in strength to solid wood at all. For instance, if you drive a screw in it, it chips out, and will not hold as in wood, especially near an edge. My guess is that any piece of furniture you see made out of this stuff most likely came off an assembly line. The design may be cool, but there is no craftsmanship involved. You get what you pay for, and all it takes is for someone to drop the piece, or try to drag it across the floor, and the thing will break apart......guaranteed. Show the picture of the set to a local cabinetmaker, and see what kind of deal you can make.....we want your business.

Obama: Pros: he supports gay marriage and abortion (I don't like the idea of abortion but it is the women's body, their choice) Medicare (a friend of ours got cancer and his insurance couldn't cover it but Medicare did and he's doing great!) trying to find an alternative energy source so we don't become dependent on other countries, has an awesome wife who is helping to end obesity, and he's an overall nice guy :) Cons: doesn't have limits on guns, says people have the right to carry them Romney: Pros: doesn't think people should carry around weapons Cons: says gays can't marry (who is he to tell someone they can't love someone) forbids abortion in case of rape or incest (even so, it is not his choice, it's the women who will be caring for the baby) doesn't want to find an alternative energy source (what happens when we run out?) wants to end Medicare Sorry, I don't have lots of good things for Romney, I obviously really want Obama so I'm probably a little biased ;) I wish I could vote but I'm only 14!! Hope this helped ;)

it is cheap furniture. and it chips off easily -- you have to clean a lot after dust and particles. those are specific elements. it all depends on which room and what purpose you are using the furniture-- for bedroom --it is a no no -- because dust also makes fumes. and you need to breath clean air specially in the bedroom where you are confined at least 8 hrs. a day. think again.

I think you'll find that more and more furniture is made from it. No one wants to spend the kind of money it takes to buy heirloom furniture. Instead, most people buy the cheap stuff and in a few years when you get tired of it, you build a campfire.

Particle board is sometime made from recycled wood, this is good. If it gets wet, it is ruined for sure. It is heavier than real wood due to all the glue used to make it. It is usually cheaper in price than wood. Hope this has helped

the main pros are it's not expensive and it's light and easy too move. the cons are it is not real durable and might start falling apart and you could never refinish it.
