Try this tip and see if it works. A couple of months ago somone sent me an article that says sprinkle the artificial sweetener Aspartame wherever you have ants, inside or outside. They said Aspartame was originally developed as a powerful ant poison and even works on fire ants. Aspartame is found in Equal and Nutrasweet.

You can spend $10,000 on all the useless Chemicals they sale at Wal Mart and other stores and you will never get rid of them.
All they do is make them move to another area. The only chemical that was ever any good was Mirex and they banned it years ago because it worked to good!
There are only two ways to Kill Fire Ants.
The best one is to take about a 3 or 4 foot long piece of pointed steel rod and drive it down into the mond as far as you can in two or three places then pour just a few ounces of gasoline in each hole, diesel fuel or kerosine, will work but not as good. After you pour it in tap the hole shut gentley with something, I use my foot, the ones around the hole are already dead by this time anyway. The gas will seep through all the channels and kill all ants and the queen! Unless you kill her you have done nothing. Be sure to bang the rod against something because there will be about 20 of them runing up the shaft after you once you poke the holes!
The 2nd way and this is only fesable if the mounds are fairly close to one another is to take a shovel full of dirt and ants from one mound and place it onto or next to another mound then take a shovel full from that mound and place it on the other one. This will cause a war between the two and one will kill all the ants in the other. So you have done away with one of them. Be sure again to knock the ants off the shovel because they will be after you! I take a can of Starting Fluid (Either) with me and just spray the shovel or rod I am using. The mounds need to be no more than 15 feet or so apart for this to work. The gas is the best. It will kill a little grass but it will come back, the ants will not!
If this does not work you might as well move somewhere else!

AMDRO is the most highly recommended fire ant killer available.

Common corn grits sometimes work when spred around the monds

Pour boiling water into the top of the mounds and this will takeout most of the colony.

Anything with a petroleum base will kill your grass.

This is so simple, but you never hear of anyone doing it, and it works ! Locate 2 ant hills. With your shovel, scoop up as big a pile of dirt and ants as you can out of one pile. Take it over to the other pile and throw it on top. Dig a hole out of that pile and bring it back to hole #1 and throw those ants on ! They will kill each other out. Keep doing this to as many anthills as you can handle to do. You may want to bring ants from opposite sides of yard, to make sure they don't belong to the same hill.

An easy cheap way to ge trid onf them is using uncooked grits. Put about 2 Tablespoons on each ant hill. They eat the grits and dehydrate and die. It may take a week to see the results sor sure but I haven't had any problems since, and it's safe for pets and children.

There are various sprays and powders that you can buy at a store like Wal-Mart, grocery stores and home improvement places. I use a powder called "Bengal 2x," which I bought at a grocery store called Piggly Wiggly. It's easy to use; it sprinkles on and lasts for months. Good luck!
