Men are about 30 percent stronger than women, on average. This difference is mainly in the upper body, where men have an edge of about 40%. In the lower body the difference is only about 15%. This strength advantage is do to the fact that men are generally bigger and heavier. They typically have more muscle mass and less body fat. And their taller and wider skeletal frame provides a leverage advantage. But there are no inherent gender differences in muscle quality or capacity. Women can generate the same force per unit of muscle as men. And with training, they make the same relative strength improvements. Moreover, there is a considerable range among both sexes, and some women are stronger than some men.

When you're dealing with real people and not generalizations, though, a specific woman may well be stronger than a specific man.

Gender roles can make the difference more pronounced (men are probably more likely to do jobs and activities where they build up more muscle), but it is natural for humans to some extent.

Think about it, in the cave man days how could you have kids if the ones that give birth are doing the fighting? It's like, whats better, 1 guy and 100 women, or 100 guys and 1 woman? who would make more people?

As far as brute strength is concerned, men have evolved to be stronger than women, probably due to the fact that men for 100s of years, if not more, tend to do more physical labor. However, speaking of physical labor, I'd give women a lot of credit for going through labor to have a baby.

Men have a higher muscle and bone mass than women. This is physiological and provides them with greater sheer physical strength. Women however it has been proved, have better hand/eye co-ordination and faster reflexes than men. Not MUCH better or faster, but statistically significant.

yes. 40% more muscle, or maybe 60%. one of the two. the reason is evolutionary - muscles require a lot more energy/food to sustain. women give birth to babies, and therefore must "share" a lot of their nutrients. therefore most of their bodies contains more fat, which is more nutrient-rich, and less muscle, which actually requires extra nutrients. less muscles and more fat gives the fetus a greater chance of being carried to term, and being born healthy. this trait is also a big factor in why humans are so intelligent.
