Not only is she rude to most everyone, she can dish it out but not take any kind of critisism, this is the kind of person you have to walk on eggshells because she has several mood swings, she uses people for what she needs and after she gets what she wants she ignores you. Unfortunetly I work with her and our job is mostly to meet and greet people and she is lousy at it.

She talks to people anyway she wants to and people answer her back rudly she starts to complain. We work in a school and our job is to maintain peace and meet and greet visitors. she is a monster who needs to be put in her place, but how to do it and still be able to work with her, any ideas?

If you have a supervisor, it's really his or her job to do the talking. Explain it to your supervisor. If he/she has a backbone, he/she will be able to do this tactfully. If you don't, gently mention a specific incident to your co-worker, where a 'greet-ee' was offended by her attitude.

Ignore her don't let her see that she upsets you, just let her know if she gets out of hands and if she does not improve take it to the manager (the level above you) then if that person doesn't help go above them and so fourth until she is put in her place. Jobs are stressful enough and you shouldn't have to put up with this, nobody should!!!

well ,now, we first have to assess the situation.
we have a very disrespectful co - worker...check.

i would(and this by all means does not include you)
but i would wait until we are going to lunch somewhere, pull the car over, and ask what the hell her problem is.
tell her she has gained a lot of enemies over these few days, and that you have held them back from jumping over counters. tell her she is a rude unappreciative *****, and if she continues to get on your nerves you are willing to loose your job over whooping her ***.

Man I wouldn't want that sort of person anywhere around my kids perhaps you can organise for your supervisor to be in an location where he/she can be witness to this kind of behaviour then take further action as necessary like maybe dismissal.

Every office has them. Mock her in a joking way so she can hear how ridiculous she sounds.
