there are a number of websites like www.orbitz.com or expedia.com, etc. also try the airlines own web sites. and keep in mind you might be able to save money on the flight if you maybe drive a couple hours to an airport rather than use the one closest to you. buying two or three weeks or more ahead of time could be helpful too.

For a check of a variety of airlines, you might try www.kayak.com. It checks a variety of travel sites.
After that, try the so-called low fare carriers like Southwest (www.southwest.com), AirTran, JetBlue, etc. Of couse, the more time you have before you travel, the more likely you are to get a discount.

Depends on when you are leaving. I found tickets one month ago on yahoo travel for round trip from detroit to orlando and vice versa for $99. AOL also has a last minute traveling link you should check out.

depends on where and your travel time. i fly jacksonville to michigan DIRECT and it's about 180-300 depending on the dates. sorry but my time is valuable to me and sitting in a airport and plan for 1/2 to an entire day is worth more than the difference for a direct flight.
i fly northwest.
you can usually find more selections from orlando ORD to metro DTW
