Are you latinamerican? I am, most of the people in telenovelas are indeed white or native Indian looking but only because they are the majority. Besides there are a number of black latinamericans in novelas, I guess I never noticed. I don't think it is done purpusely, latinamerica isn't really a racist society. Not like others anyway, I think culture is more important than say race in latinamerica.

it really is totally exciting. i'm no longer Hispanic yet I have said it too. practically all the characters in those "soaps" to boot because the records anchors, talk instruct hosts, sport instruct hosts, and so on. are white. Seldom does one see a mestizo, no longer to instruct a black. What i hit upon hypocritical is that if lots of those white Hispanics were to go back into the U.S. marketplace, they'd probable get jobs in accordance to their ethnicity, as although being Hispanic and white were one way or the different at the same time unique, and shamelessly take income of it. Sinverguenzas!

I have noticed this myself. While it's true that Spanish language television, in general, isn't representative of the multitude of Hispanics, as you put it, at least it kind of sticks it to those who wrongly believe that being white and Hispanic are somehow mutually exclusive. I did actually see a black bartender in one of those soaps a couple of weeks ago. Very few mestizos, though.

I know what u mean! But that is the same problem in many cultures. White seems to be the "good" thing for some reason. But i think people of every tone should have equal air time. Sometimes there are people with different skin colors.

The ideal of attractiveness in Latin America is someone who is unmixed European. These people you're seeing on Telenovelas are hispanics, just very light skinned ones.

Being Hispanic, I sort of agree, however I have seen black charachters in telenovelas interpreted in a positive manner.

That's been a complaint against Telemundo and Univision for years. They won't, or wouldn't hire dark news presenters. Just plain bigotry

Mexico has pretty much the same color problems as Americans do - in some degrees worse. Did you know Mexicans still watch Blackface?
Which by the way would get you either shot or shanked in my neighborhood.
