They are startlingly similar...why? Do they have the same person write the lyrics, sing, etc.?

they are both signed by fueled by ramen.. that's the only similar thing.
and both bands are really really good friends.

They both have singers that sound remarkably similar, which is why generally, if you like one then you like the other. Also, they both have song titles that go forever and yet have not relevance to the song. Panic at the Disco however, likes to play around with all the fancy studio tricks and dance around in magician's outfits.
