right-click on the gray space near the address bar, and check google toolbar.

yes! i also get this problems, one day i was reading e-book about tweaking windows xp and in some paragraphs the owner says about in internet explorer there are several unknown hacks (not harmful for u pc but it will change the view of ie) ,this hacks usually and u can say habitually messing with ur style of viewing internet explorer, some time it can fix but some times not, may b u r not a perminent affected try this, try below ,
right click above address bar then check Google Bar
if this not work then go for reinstallment of GB!

If cant find it just right click abovr the address bar and check yahho tool bar

right click above the adress bar and click on google you should get it back
