That the Iraqi war is something much larger than ever anticipated. It is like the last stand, if the US fails with Iraq, terrorists will officially have a country with plenty of power. If the US succeeds in stabilizing Iraq, terrorists as we know it will be much weaker. What is your opinion on this?

tristand, think about it, yes, maybe, just maybe, iraq was a mistake, but pulling out of iraq prematurely would be the biggest mistake this country may ever make

g, i have one more widely accpeted view with no proof, global warming,

Oh, there is proof, osama said that iraq was the war to define Al Qaeda, even if he did not mean it, his people took him as if he did.

Not a bad point of view. If the U.S. can succeed and build a strong democracy in Iraq, they will have a reliable Middle Eastern country as an ally in the region, which is why the are so hell bent on this government working, you know, a model for similar countries to follow. However if the U.S. were to pull out, it would be seen as a loss to terrorism by the rest of the world and the terrorist ranks would swell because of it and we would be at war somewhere else. It is unfortunate the lives lost, but we have to stay the course because this could very well be the defining war in the war on terror.

I've never seen a more widely accepted idea with less proof...

you have no evidence to support your idea... the terrorists are basically operating right now how they want in Pakistan, Iran, Syria and Indonesia... but I'm sure they would all move to Iraq for no good reason?

you don't have ANY REASONS for what you state... why would terrorists be weaker? why would terrorists run to Iraq?

the only reason that I've seen anyone to have the beliefs that you do... is because Osama said so...

so, now your basing your strategy on what Osama said? are you guys really that naive?

maybe he had a reason for saying that... LIKE KEEPING YOU OFF HIS BACK... BY KEEPING YOU IN IRAQ?

if Hitler said that the battle for Australia is the key to WWII would you have not bothered invading Germany because he said so?

scorbore: there are many studies that support global warming theories... if only you had a tenth as much support for your argument...

So another Iraq = Terrorist base believer. You people make me laugh. When you say "we" do you mean your other platoon buddies or your acquaintances with similar warlike views while you kick it at home? The number of documented terrorist attacks has gone up 1000 percent since the US invasionand the number of people (civilians and military) is 20+ times the number killed on 9/11. Military casualties alone exceed the losses of 9/11. Is this progress? Sometimes people just have to admit when they were wrong. And sometimes political leaders who´ve created unnecessary wars get hung (Nuremburg.) God Bless the troops.

many of us realize that. And many of us realized it was going to be much larger than Bush realized. Why do you think so many people were against going in there in the first place? Even Powell was against going in-- he's a soldier and knows the implications. There were few (if any) terrorists IN Iraq before the war. Now, becauase of what we have done, there are plenty of Iraqi AND foreign terrorists/insurgents that went there to fight us. Had we not gone in, many/most would not have gone that route.

Conservative obstinance. Lacking in evidence. Chamberlains attempts at quelling Hitler are not comparable, simply because terrorists have no military. They cannot invade, they have no organization, no cohesive strength, and no discipline. They are dangerous, but to say it is somehow the last stand is ridiculous.

Are you old enough to remember the Cold War?

My husband is in the Army and since the war on terror has begun my hubby has been sent over to Iraq and Kuwait 6 times in the last 5 years and bout to go again in OCT :( but, it's what he signed up to do and I'm etremly proud of him and all our troops for taking care of us and risking their lives on a daily basis for all of us.

I agree but we are wasting a lot of resources . why don't other countries help us police the scum of the earth ? Is it because the only thing worth saving is the oil or are they saving up for bigger events.all major countries have to deal with terrorist but only the USA is spending all this money and resource on it.

I think our country went in too early. UN inspectors needed more time and they were kicked out prematurely.

A lot of things are going wrong, unfortunately, not just the Iraq war.

People do realize this, I believe.

What we are seeing is the different ways people handle things they do not want to hear.

Denial is still the #1 coping mechanism in the US.

I think winning at all costs is a losing strategy.
Let the American empire fail if it must.
All empires are finite. I will go live somewhere else if I can.
or must. I won't fight for Republicans or help them with their wars.
I certainly can't defend or support what is being done in my name in the Middle East.
