The grim reaper is like the boogie man for me, I stopped believing in him when I was six-years-old.

Have you ever heard of Thanatos, the Greek embodiment of Death? He WAS the Grim Reaper, collecting the shades/spirits of the dead. But he had (excuse the word) a life. Maybe the Grim Reaper is just like that. Maybe you were of interest to Grim and he just came to visit, to look in on you, or even to watch over you.
Then again, maybe it wasn't Death so much as another dark entity.
If you really believe your house is haunted (or have had any other strange experiences), check up on the building or land through the local library or the real estate agent who sold it to you, or, if you are still living with your parents, ask them if they've noticed anything strange or know about the houses past.
So many people think that spirits just wander around for malacious reasons, but what if, sometimes, they just see a pretty face and stick around to watch over you? Maybe something you did or said, or something in your appearance interested this entity. Just because something seems scary, doesn't mean its evil or even slightly naughty.

I had the same thing happen to me one night and it was a long, long time ago but still feels like yesterday.
My then 3 yo daughter came into my bedroom to wake me up because she wanted to get in my bed. When I opened my eyes I saw her and then I saw the very tall 'thing' wearing the black hooded robe and carrying a staff. I grabbed my daughter and screamed out " NO " and then it left.
Nothing ever happened to any of us. People thought I was crazy so I didn't speak about it. But when the Internet became available I started doing searches on it and found that many people are visited by that type of 'entity ' but don't know what it is.
I think I will research it again. I'll put a link in here if I find anything.

Me and old Grimmy (that's what I call him now) go way back. It all started when he came for me, but I invited him a few drinks... then he got drunk and totally forgot what he came for... now he just comes over whenever he wants to party... this weekend I am taking him to Baja have some good old fun Mexican style.
Seriously, I just read a report about a week ago where scientist were able to reproduce that same experience just by stimulating a certain region of the brain. The participants felt and saw a black shadow around them, some even felt as if it was holding them. The article appeared in Yahoo, so look for it. I used to believe in such experiences until I read the article. So no need to alarm yourself
Cheers
p.s. Me and Grimmy will have a drink in your honor tomorrow!!!

Your visitation sounds like a shadow person to me. Many people report seeing them. i have never seen one of those.
In the early '90's, my pets and both my parents died over a period of around three years. I felt the presence of Death around me all the time, lurking, just waiting to take some else away.
Have you ever sen the movie, "the Frighteners"?

a lot of people have been seeing these "Shadow people" lately.
Check out 'coasttocoastam.com for more information on them.
this is the website for the nightly talk show that covers subjects like this that no one else will talk about. Apparently there have been many sightings of these dark intruders lately all over america and elsewhere.

could be one of the shadow people, they are known to do such, but if you think it was the reaper, it may have been. I have known the entity to do things like that, just for some kind of morbid fun.
then again, maybe you've seen to many anti tobocco commercials.

dat wasn't grim reaper 'coz according to the story once grim visit you,,you'll gonna die but you didn't die...I'd once read a story about it,and it says that once you receive a visit it means grim reaper is coming to get you in other words grim reaper is trying to warn you about your coming death
