it asks for win 98 prog. disks on startup.i hav'nt got the disks= and want to get ome old pics off the harddrive before i bin it ! any ideas?

you need to get a windows 98 boot disk. This should let you boot your computer up and get the files off that you need. I think you can download one here and put it on a floppy. http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

pull the drive and keep it so you can install it as a slave in your new pc? Then you can keep all your files clean that old drive and have a backup drive! That's what I'd do, but I'm a technician so I scavenge parts from my old PCs all the time.

If you already have another computer, remove the HD from the old one, put it in the new one as a slave drive, and transfer the pic across.

Download a copy of Knoppix Linux live CD. This will allow you to access the harddrive and hopefully you can save your data. http://www.knoppix.com/

You could try booting it in safe mode if it will allow you to get that far. Other than that, try to find someone with a disc you can borrow to repair yours.
