If the distinguishing factor of psychopathology is marked by inability to feel emotion would it be just to conclude that such psychopath could not also exhibit a second ‘suffering’ mental disorder?

Narcissistic Personality Disorder is almost always present in the Psychopath; however, this far from causes him/her suffering.

Psychopaths CAN feel emotion. They just can't feel or identify with emotional states of other people to any significant degree. They lack empathy, and this is commonly referred to as lacking a conscience.

Essentially they have an inability to react emotionally to the threat of abstract or future consequences. They do however fear threats of imminent danger or harm.

They can suffer from "other" mental disorders because in a sense, psychopathology is not so much an illness as a condition - and one that is essentially not changeable or "curable" as an illness might be.

But a psychopath can have neuroses brought on precisely because his psychopathology can skew his own self image, and he can fear the onset of short term harm more than would ordinarily be warranted.

Psychopaths can suffer - they just don't recognize the source of the suffering in the same way others do, and tend to believe it comes from the aggressive acts of others rather than as a consequence of their aggressive acts toward others.

Of course........ I see that all the time. Its reasonable to believe that one mental illness can indeed cause problems in another area of someones life enough to cause different kinds of psychosis. I have a Patient now that has been diagnosed as having intermittent explosive disorder, Schizoaffective disorder and Narssistic disorder.

While pathological narcissism does exist , I disagree , in that the narcissist certainly does "suffer" .While a pathological narcissist may have an overdependent need for admiration from others , they alternate from feelings of grandiosity , to feelings of insecurity & worthlessness .They fear emptiness and being alone .

Generally something is the catalyst. One of my best friends is a psychopath and doesn't feel emotion (and yes-- he knows right from wrong and tries to do right.). This was after his whole childhood pretty much being in the custody of Child Protective Services. If fact; many times if you can solve the root you can solve the psychopathy. When it gets to that stage though usually medication doesn't do too much-- therapy has to be administered.

There can be more than 2, many more for that matter. Look at the Antisocial-Narcissist. (There are two right there) Several serial killers and rapists have been diagnosed with those simultaneously.

Yes. There are even special treatment centers for those with multiple diagnoses. My impression is that it takes a seasoned psychiatrist or psychologist to handle these cases.

Yes, sadly, having one mental illness or disorder doesn't protect you from having others.

Something would have caused the psychopathology in the first place.
