4Li(s) + O2(g) --> 2Li2O(s)

This would be like burning a Lithium wire (a metalic solid) in an gasous Oxygen atmosphere (This would be very dangerous). The resulting Lithium oxide would be a white powder.

The metal has no charge. The Oxygen gas is a covanent molecule. The product is an ionic compound.

The Net ionic equation:

4Li(0) + O2(0) --> 4Li(+1) + 2O(-2)
