Everyone I know who has ever owned a BMW has had problems with them. The quality is terrible, yet the owners think that their piece of $%^T cars are good. Why?

Because whey they do run, they drive like no other car on Earth...the handling, the perfect weight distribution, the feel of the steering, the brakes....

Poorly b uilt your must be a Japanese car owner that never drove one or ig you did you neglected it! A BMW is perfection on wheels! I own a e46 i drove american and Japanese before they are like boats on water you dont feel anything about the road! Maintenance is average for my e46 I love it the first time I got in it I missed a green light thats how amazing it is! Once you drive on you will know what it is. You can not treat a BMW as a second priority like other cars when something goes wrong fix it or it will cause other problems. They are not poorly built they are poorly maintained and abused! These cars are not for people that dont know what a BMW is the process that it goes through when it is first imagined to when it is done.

BMWs are not poorly built. They're well engineerd and pretty well-built cars. Their reliability isn't as good as Toyota or Honda, but Toyotas and Hondas also don't possess the same "soul" as a BMW...a car that can carve windy mountain roads and not shoot off a cliff.

You want to talk about poorly built? Have you seen what the big three American car companies have to offer?! Shitboxes with 4 wheels. Remember when everyone laughed at the Korean cars? Their quality has surpassed GM, Ford, and Chrysler and is ranked close to Toyota and Nissan.

I dont understand this comment.
You are basing this off others owning but not yourself.

Have you done any research other then your friends? If you look at Consumer Reports, they compare with all other German cars (ie. Mercedes and so on). And how many friends actually owned them? And how many did they own? And lastly were they taken care of?

BMWs are built to perform. This mean they need scheduled maintaince and care. Did any of your friends care for their cars the way they needed to be cared for? Probably not if they were having that many problems with them. I have seen BMWs with 200-300k miles on them, still running strong. I am sure that if BMWs were junk, they would have went the way of the Yugo along time ago.

First off, I have owned 2 BMW's and both of them are excellent. And would not trade them in.
Sure they arent a Japanese car, but there is NO WAY to compare a Japanese car to a German car. (Oh an BTW I have owned MANY MANY cars - Japanese, German, and American)

I personally believe that Nissans, Fords, and Chryslers are all POS's. I take that from experience. But you buy those cars for different reasons. Japanese cars are known for their reliability and gas economy, Chryslers are now known for their cheap prices for lots of bells and whistles, and American car in general for there affordability and power.

Geman cars tend to get the altruistic driver, and there is no car better then a BMW except a Porsche for those people. This is why they tend to need more adjustments to keep them right. Look at a Porsche, 100k for a car that maybe has a much power as a Nissan Maxima. People ask why, but you get behind the wheel...

Depends on who owns the car. If the person doesn't break it in properly-every car will have problems. If you don't take care of maintnance, you will have problems. I am on my 2nd bmw-a 1992 bmw 325is and haven't had to go to a mechanic in 2 years (changed the oil, spark plugs/ wires, air, oil and fuel filter and brake pads). My mom is on her 5th bmw and only "mechanical problem" she had was a central lock that didn't work after someone ripped the lock out of the door and broke into the car (and stole tissue paper!!!)
Bimmer owners love their cars cuz they are involving cars-you feel the road, the turns, the brakes. Its very communicative and has the best dampening in the business. Hard springs plus weak sway bars give you great handling on stock cars. Acceleration is impressive-braking is good in magazines-but i beleive could use a little work, suspension is good (though i have lowered mine), They're just FUN CARS TO DRIVE!

I'll let you know why we drive BMWs - they drive GREAT. The brakes are wonderful, they are light and swift enough to get out of the way of so many poor drivers out there.

Also, I live in an area where there are many terrible drivers. I am familar with several BMW drivers who, through no fault of their own, ended up in serious accidents - cars totaled -- and yet, they are testimony that the cars are built very well. They walked away without a scratch.

Whereas, I truly cannot say that about Honda, Toyota and other tin machines on the road.

And that's why.

It is a status symbol. You have shown that you can afford
#1. The price of a BMW.
#2. The cost to maintain a BMW.

People who complains are those who can afford #1 but not #2. They make $1000 a month and spend $950 on car payments.

I live in Germany, i see more bmw's than any person commenting on your ?'s. BMW's are not built poorly, they outlast any american vehicle on the road. I currently own a 91 BMW 735iL and it has 250,000 miles on it and it runs just fine and i havent had any problems with it besides changing the tires and brakes.
They are good built cars and are still a premium car to buy. Maybe your friends buy pieces of junk without testing them out!

i own a repair shop,,and there are a few good BMW,s out there, the problem with them is about the same problem all other cars have,, owner neglect,,people think because its a BMW that it will last forever and they don't have to maintain it as good as you do other cars,,this is what makes them get a bad reputation for repairs,,i work on a lot of vehicles,,and i have see fords and Chevy's with the same problem,,owner neglect,,even a Mercedes will tear up if not properly taken care of,but this is where people think there bad,,all cars in one way or another have problems,,we just notice it more if we see a BMW in a shop,,rather than a vw or something,,it looks like it don't belong there,if you look at in in one way there all just a bucket of bolts once you take them apart,,basically that's all that holds them together,,and its always about the name ,,if you own a BMW it shows success or money,,or lack of,,good luck ,,i hope this help,s.

Bimmers aren't reliable cars, BMW dont sell cars in the name of reliability, it market bmw's in the name of "Ultimate driving pleasure". And driving pleasure or that sense of G pushing ya on the back of your M3's bucket seat is nothing to compare with. If one wants to drive a reliable and well built car then go and drive a boring Lexus.

As far as poorly built is concerned, Ferrari and all other italian super cars are pathetic interms of reliability but they serve their purpose thats the utmost extraction of fuel cuts at 8000 RPM.

Why owners love BMW? Good question, one needs to own a bimmer to feel the answer. Its the feeling which is uncomparable.

My bimmer make me go to workshop atleast once in a month and 90% times its something regarding electricity. But on ma way back home the fun of flooring is awesome.

If one is planning to buy a BMW for commution purpose dont even think about it, I maself drive a Nissan for daily driving.

Thnxx..

Don't ever believe another car owner. They'll either say that their car is the greatest or that it sucks. never just nice or ok
You need to own a car, work on a car, or build a car before you can say that it's poorly built.
How long have you owned BMW's or worked on them?
