What is better? Why?

Macs are the best for several reasons.

1. They are among the best quality computers built today - very few lemons.

2. If you do have issues, they have the best customer support. Consumer Reports backs these both up.

3. Since they now use Intel processors (just like Dell, Sony, HP, etc.) they can run Mac OS X (widely viewed as the best OS available today), Windows (including Vista when it comes out), and Linux and other Unix variants, so they are the ONLY computers that can run virtually every app out there today.

4. There have been ZERO real world malicious software issues in the 5+ years that OS X has been out. That means NO viruses, NO spyware, NO adware, NOTHING. This has nothing to do with market share, but rather the fact that Mac OS X is based on UNIX which has been around for over 30 years and, unlike Windows, was built from the ground up to be securely networked.

I'm a graphics and multimedia professional. I produce for print, broadcast and film. I use both Mac and PC. They are both so similar , at this point. Much better than the Commodore-64 and the Texas Instruments that I started programming on, decades ago. :)
If you have the bucks, start with a Mac - their customer service is highly regarded, but than again, so is Dell's.
Mac is great for people who dont want to learn 'computer system' stuff, and it is the standard platform in my chosen profession - And, it is aesthetically pleasing on all levels.
With a PC you generally have more options for upgrades, and in some cases are able to work with more file formats, as industry standards seem to be sometimes disregarded - especially with multimedia formats.
Generally, as with anything else, you get what you pay for.

(I duck, as the crossfire begins....)

Macintosh, hands down. I could go on forever with all of the reasons you should own a Macintosh. I switched just over a year ago, and I love my two Macs. Yes, two. I just bought a new Intel Mac, and it's awesome. It's so fast. Macs can do so much more than PCs anymore, it's not even funny. Just read about them at Apple's website.

I have both and I find the mac to be better for video/ audio editting. Windows has a tendency to create undesirable artifacts in my audio and video unless I have the system set up just right. This is less of a problem with the mac.Other than that, they're pretty equal.

Oh yeah, and the Mac os 10.4 has very good parental controls.

Depends on what you are after. Both operating systems have there good points and flaws. PC's have way more software available for them, but at the same time, Mac's are not as prone to catch viruses, as most are made to effect PC's.

It depends on who you ask....

I use PC alot but plan on using MAC ALOT MORE, once their new technology comes out "Boot Camp" allowing BOTH operating systems (Windows and Mac) to work perfectly together.

I hope this answers your question.

Personally i think PC's but iv'e noticed that the MAC laptops seem to have batteries that last longer, and that can come in handy when you don't have your charger.
