lysosomes digests and recycles used cell components. they are used in defense to protect the cell from outside invaders. lysosomes contain enzymes that rapidly breakdown macromolecules. (done when you are a baby) if the lysosomes didn't spill the enzymes then we would have webbed hands and feet like frogs!! disgusting, huh?

Lysosomes are organelles that contains digestive enzymes (acid hydrolases). They digest excess or worn out organelles, food particles, and engulfed viruses or bacteria. The membrane surrounding a lysosome prevents the digestive enzymes inside from destroying the cell. Lysosomes fuse with vacuoles and dispense their enzymes into the vacuoles, digesting their contents.

I'm going to start at the beginning. Substances enter the cell membrane through selective permeability. Then it is packaged inside lysosomes, where it's digested by enzymes inside the organelle. Next it's transported to the Endoplastic Reticulum. The ER packages the substance inside another organelle called the vesicle, that transports the substance out of the cell or takes it to other organeles for nutrients.
