I work for the Department of Work and Pensions. The number you need to call is for the Benefit Fraud Hotline on 0800 854 440. It will probably help if you know the benefit type. Since you referred to it as 'the dole' I shall assume you are talking about Job Seekers Allowance. Calls are totally confidential so please rest assured. Fraudulent claims cost the tax payer nearly one billion pounds a year so please grass them up to your heart's content.

Please also consider that a person can work up to 16 hours a week and still sign on for JSA though they must declare it.

If you require any further information don't hesitate to ask me

Good luck.

Also what a lot of people don't realise is that there are two types of JSA. Contribution based is what you pay into while you are working and you build up your entitlement for up to a maximum of 6 months. You have paid for this so if you don't claim it when you find yourself between jobs for a few weeks you are quite foolish. This also makes sure your national insurance contributions are continuous and can also help with your council tax and rent during those periods. Its money you paid in so why do yourself out of it?

There is a national benefit fraud hotline which you can supposedly call in confidence. The number is freephone in the UK.

0800 85444

Lines are open between 7am and 11pm seven days a week and reports can also be made online, here:

I think you can, how else will they find out without given information to go on. I don't know if you would go to the job centre or the council, possibly the council, not sure what department though.

Yes you can!

Send a letter with as much info as possible like dates, times, places etc along with their name and address to your local benefits agency's offices.
Or the job centre.
You can phone them also with info!
