Simplify then solve:

.20(12-2) + 12x=1
.20(10)+12x=1
2+12x=1
12x=1-2
12x=-1
x=-1/12

.2(12-2) + 12x = .2(10) + 12x= 2 +12x=1. SO 12x = -1 so x=-1/12.

Well, first you do stuff in the parenthesis. .20(10) + 12x = 1

Then you do the multiplication 2 + 12x = 1

Then you subtract 2 from each side. 12x = -1

Then you divide each side by 12 to get x by itself x= - 1/12

or if you don't want it in fraction form x = -.08333333333333333

Remeber BEDMAS for order of operations (what to solve first in a problem), it will help you in the future:

B = brackets
E = exponents
D = division
M = multiplication
A = addition
S = subraction

(12-2=10, so 10x.20=2... then, 2+12xX (and x=1, so) 2+12=14 (duh) and finally, 14x1=14. At least that's what I got. Check it, cuz it might not be right. :)
