A bunch of atoms colliding with each other, creating energy in the form of light. This is why it is more efficient than a standard lightbulb, since most of the energy in standard lightbulbs is released through heat, not as light.

Electricity is turned on, and the "probes" that stick out into a neon bulb is electrified, thus the gas is "excited" and reacts to the electricity, and since the gas is 'conductive' the electricity goes from one side to the other, and hits the other electrode, so that it completes the circuit, so that the gas "emits light" with the flow of electrons bouncing all about the gas particles...

I wish you well..

theres powder stuff (whatever color the fluorescent bulb is) that has a chemical reaction when the electricity is introduced to the bulb...thats all I know about it basicaly. some kind of reaction to the powder.

a flourescent light bulb works by introuducing a small amount of electricity to a gas that reacts with it, the gas is sealed in the glass tube and glows as a reaction to being exposed to electricity.

Electricity excites the molecules of the gas inside the tube to the point that they emit light.

u turn it on, it sends an electric current through chemicals producing a light reaction along with heat, but the heat is reused as electricity, making it more efficient as the normal ones. kind of like a hybrid car.

I flip the switch, it flickers a few times then comes on and bathes me in this harsh light that makes me look old and sickly.
