It is currently 2006 so 0 would be 2006 years ago. Now add 551 to 2006 because you are now 551 years BC (Before Christ = 0). 2006 + 551 = 2557 years ago. Anytime you see BC just add that year to the current year and you've got it! :-)

BC is Before Christ and AD is After Death or present day. So, removing 2,006 years would bring us to 0 and remove 551 more would bring us to 551 BC. 2,006 + 551 = 2557 years ago.

Just realise B.C. as a negative it is now 2006 a.d. so take 2006+(-551)

That's basically correct, but AD does not stand for "After Death" is stands for Anno Domini, which is Latin for "the year of the lord".

Most texts use BCE for Before Christian Era and CE for Christian Era now.
