Looks like you got your answer, but in case you actually want to LEARN how to do this, and not just copy someone else's work, check out this website: http://www.algebrahelp.com/lessons/simplifying/

6(y-1)+8=32
Multiply 6 into y & -1 which gives you
6y-6+8=32: -6+8=2 which gives
6y+2=32: Subtract 2 from both sides
6y=30: Divide 6 by both sides
y=5

9-4(2p-1)=45
Multiply 4 into 2p & -1 which gives you
9-8p+4 (-4*-1 = 4) = 45 Now you add 4 to 9 and you get
13-8p=45: Subtract 13 from both sides
-8p = 32: Divide both sides by -8
p= - 4

you need to know the order of operations to be able to do these probelms. You need to do certain probelms first in order to get the right answer the way i remember it is the acroynm PEMDAS

P arenthesis, brackets
E xponents and squareroots
M ultiplication
D ivision
A ddition
S subtraction

Also know your subtracting, multiplying etc. of negative and positive numbers.

6(y-1)+8 = 32
6y-6+8 = 32 (now add -6+8, you get positive 2)
6y+2 = 32 (now subtract 2 from both sides)
6y = 30 (here you would divide both sides by 6 to get Y by itself)
y = 5

9-4(2p-1)=45
(now in the order of operations, distribute -4 to the numbers in the parenthesis)
9-8p+4 = 45
(now we combine like integers)
-8p+13 = 45
(now we get rid of the 13 by subtracting 13 from both sides)
-8p = 32
(we can't have a negative -p for an answer so we divide both sides by -8 to get p by itself and make it positive)
p = -4

(hint you can check your answers by pluggin them in and see if it equals answer, 45)
Good luck =D

6(y - 1)+8=32
6y - 6 + 8 = 32
6y + 2 = 32
6y = 30
y = 5

9 - 4(2p - 1) = 45
9 - 8p - 4 = 45
-8p + 5 = 45
-8p = 40
p = -5

There you go!

how to get "y" first get rid of the 8
32-8=24, then how to get 24 out of 6(y-1) well I just did that in my head. its hard to explan when ur not a teacher so heres my best
what 6*(y-1) will give your 24 well 6(5-1) will give you 24
y=5

and on the second queston i just used my ti-83 plus
Y=9-4(2x-1)
then 2nd=table or graph
then scroll up and find what Y1=45
p= (-4)
