I know for a fact that my building have roaches because I recently asked them. So, I called my landlord...and we talked. Then he told me that "roaches move up and down not side to side". In other words he's saying that I got them from down stairs..."because the person next to me doesn't have roaches". What, I don't understand. So I need some help.

You have been lied to and need an exterminator.

Roaches spend most of their lives hiding.

They love cracks and can squeeze in just about anywhere. Young roaches can fit into a space as thin as a dime. An adult male needs a crack about the thickness of a quarter. Female roaches carrying eggs need more room - a space as tall as 2 stacked nickels.

here is an ALL inclusive web site about roaches...

Roaches move where they CAN move. If your building separates
floors with cement flooring, then they'll probably have a tougher
time moving vertically - if you have gaping holes between floors
but firewalls between apartments, then the converse would be
true.

Roaches go where there is food - and it may be that even if
there is a gaping hole into the next apartment, there are no
roaches there because they didn't find anything to eat.

It has much more to do with the construction of the building and
where there is available food than anything peculiar to the
insect itself. It is opportunistic. It eats what it can when it can
wherever it can.

No. Nice try, Mr. Landlord. My husband works for a 'bug firm' and roaches are equal opportunity RAID!! It doesn't matter. Cut down on how many you have by doing a few things: NO PLANTS (leaves attract them), NO food droppings of ANY kind ANYWHERE on tables, floors, etc. and NO empty folded or not grocery bags - they LOVE the dark and damp!! Good luck!

Watch the roaches. They move in ALL directions and not just up and down. They are scavengers and survived hundreds of millions of years because they are flexible. They would quickly die out if they restricted their movement. Your landlord is wrong.

Boric acid works well and is safe unless you have small children or pets.

Good luck.
