hydr- water
Hydro-, or hydr- before a vowel, is an English prefix that indicates either water (e.g. hydroelectric), liquid (e.g. hydrodynamics), or hydrogen (e.g. hydrochloride). The term comes from the Greek hudro-, hudr-, from hudōr (meaning water).
Examples:
Hydrobiology, in biology, the study of water and the water cycle
Water cycle or hydrologic cycle
Hydrogeology, in geology, the study of groundwater and its occurrence, distribution, and effects
Hydroplaning: A layer of water between the rubber tires of a road vehicle and the road surface (or between airplane wheels and the runway) reduces the friction with the tires. This causes the vehicle to act like an unpowered and unsteered sled.
